I'm Molly, a typical sushi, makeup, and fashion loving millennial girl who just so happens to be blind! I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa at just 4 years old and began public speaking at age 5. I started just doing motivational speaking, but now I make videos and even model! Even though I can’t see, I know that there are bright spots in everything we face. Let’s find them together. 💕

  • Have you ever had a bad moving experience? Tell me all the juicy drama! And what would you have done if ou were in this situation?

    • You didn't happen to use Atlas Van Lines did you? We did and oh my god tragedy. They didn't use blankets between any furniture to protect it. All of our wooden furniture had scratches and dings all over it. My mom has 300+ cookie jars and even though the boxes said very fragile they just tossed them in and when we got to the new house around half of them were broken. They didn't keep any of the rooms grouped together so when we moved stuff in we had to figure out where things went piece by piece instead of load by load. They didn't seal the wardrobe boxes like they said they would and all of our clothes were plastered in clay dust. They smoked while loading and unloading our belongings so everything smelled like smoke. When they were moving in boxes and furniture they were not careful of walls so we had chunks missing from walls. We have an engraved family rock (literally a 1360 kg boulder) that not only did they charge us an extra $1000 to move, but they forgot it the first time and then somehow cracked it down the middle. To top it all off we have a steep driveway that is hard to get the moving trucks up so we told them you have to back up at a diagonal. Nope they came straight up and took 2 huge gouges out of the concrete with their step rail. We will never again be going with Atlas Van Lines. We did not tip in the end nor did we end up paying full price after the complaints (iirc we ended up paying only fuel costs). So yeah I literally feel you on horrendous moves they are sooo painfully aggravating.

    • My boyfriend decided to move one day and we moved all his stuff the next day. We just asked a friend that had a car to help and made multiple trips to the new apartment. He didn't have any furniture though. But it still was super stressful because we didn't have the move planned, like literally we made the decision to move him the night before hahaha.

    • When I was moving to my current place, my move was paid by my employer as I was transfering jobs. I was moving from a studio to a 1 bedroom nearly twice as big. I booked the move myself, but through a company that had an agreement with my employer. They seemed super serious and trustworthy and I felt so safe... Then, a couple of days before the move, this guy calls me from ANOTHER company, tells me the original company had transfered the contract to him, and he wanted to know what day I wanted to move? I told him I have already given a date, I will be over 400 kilometers away, but go back to my old place for the move and I have booked train tickets, so it needs to happen -that- day. He was like "I'll see what I can do"... So when I went back to my old place, I did not even know if I would have a moving company show up. Then, this ONE guy shows up, and he is supposed to move my 3 seat sofa and everything... First thing he does is demand I make him coffee... ALL my kitchen supplies were packed up. Then, in order for us to be done on time so I could hand the key back to the landlord before going on a train back to my new home town, I had to pack half my stuff myself He just seemed so careless and basically tried to bulldose me through the entire process. I did just as much work as he did. Then I had a chaotic train ride back to my home town but thats another story. I came to my friend's place to sleep at like 10:15 PM and passed out. Got up the next morning to mee the mover at my new place... Even though we had actually systematized which boxes went in which room, he just dumped them all in my kitchen, and left. Oh and yeah, he had put my coffee maker into a box, filter full of coffee grinds and all, and of course that box was at the bottom!Aaaaaand then finally while unpacking, I realizzed that he had been really carleess with at least one box, because the little lackered wooden horse I had gotten as a goodbye present from my old job had its ear broken off!

    • We were booked to move on the day of will and Kate's wedding. The van hire company wouldn't honour the hire contract, so we had to find a van last minute and it was a shed on wheels. Then as a friend was helping us move we had a two grand mountain bike on there car roof, they nipped in to use the loo and the bike was ripped off there car roof. We didnt get it back, that was a welcome to the neighbourhood.

  • Honestly. I have to say this, every moving company is different. You should prepare yourself for the moving as much as you can, for example cover up your furniture etc yourself if you really want to get it done and pack everything yourself. And some companies do this to you for extra money, but you actually have to request everything that they should take with them. Ive worked with so many different moving companies and it is not the same for every company. You cant just expect every company to have everything with them unless you actually ask or make sure they even have that!

  • The only way you're going to get anywhere with this is through court. The BBB does nothing to help consumers besides taking the complaint and arbitrating any kind of solutions. Businesses today often run as "Business Name Inc, Doing Business As Intentionally Similar Name But Different". Whenever they get a BBB strike they think will begin to affect their business, they simply change their DBA name and continue on as normal. The only way companies like these ever get stopped is when people get fed up enough to take them to court.

  • 3-man job send 2. XD like seriously? I had to move across my state, and the company I used, I loved. They were so nice and so helpful. They literally came down the day before, loaded the truck, stayed the night as it was a 5,5:30 hour drive one way, and the drove back, went home, came by really early and unloaded everything put it where we asked them to put it. Fantastic company. My friend who only had to move once had it slightly more rough as she moved out of a dorm, but her family helped her and it was a much shorter drive. Either way, some companies are great, alothers are just plain stupid. Like bro, do you even understand or speak english? XD

  • And I thought mine was awful. Actually no, it’s still really awful. Our movers were great, though we only got them to move stuff, my brother and mother and daughter (not so much her) did all the packing (I used to, but I’m disabled now, so I gotta stay away from it otherwise my perfectionism will give me a heart attack). No, the thing that was awful was that my mum and dad were helping us move, and we were moving from a smallish city, 200km to a bigger city. And the early morning before I moved, my nana died. And my mum felt so guilty that she missed her mum dying, because she was 200km away, helping her daughter move. And we knew nana was close, but I couldn’t rearrange my move, though I tried. And then mum had a depressive episode over it, and I felt awful and guilty myself... So that’s what was awful about my move. Everything else was good. Can’t help the death of a family member though.

  • Of the four times I've moved as an adult the military moved my DH and I three times. They were efficient but things did end up scratched, dented and "lost". We did get some money back for the claims. But you were limited as to how much your stuff weighed - the higher your rank the more stuff you could move for free, you HAD to roach bomb your house/apt and if the movers saw a roach, dead or otherwise, they were allowed to leave without taking anything - this was in Louisiana and Texas but I don't remember if they said that when we moved from Missouri. My cat did not appreciate hanging out in the bathroom while the movers were there.

  • I moved out of my first apartment due to my upstairs neighbors regular screaming arguements about who had cheated on who and never ending marijuana/cigarette smoking inside the building. We moved out with no notice after a particularly bad interaction with them and reserved a truck and movers who didn't show. My poor parents and brothers had to come help us move everything ourselves down the stairs and in a tiny closet elevator but we had to get out of there or risk a mental breakdown. The moving company refunded our deposit no problems and the building had many complaints from other tenants with my neighbors too so they reimbursed me my moving costs even though I told them the movers I booked didn't show up. I was able to take the family out for a steak dinner and give them gift certificates for a massage. Very frustrating moment but karma paid me back

  • I feel like some moving companies get so bad because they know people are in a pinch and will have absolutely zero recourse. I just moved 3 weeks before we locked down (I live in Alberta). SO thankful I got it done before the lockdown but anyways, it was a NIGHTMARE. The movers were 3 hours late. I could only have the elevator booked until 6pm and they didn’t show up until after 7. But I had no choice, I had to move. The building manager was a total power-tripping, horrible human being who had given me a hard time about stuff outside my control before, so I just wanted to get out of there. I was also leaving a rather toxic relationship and couldn’t stay another night, not to mention having ALL of my stuff in boxes already. So, the movers get there and start moving. By 9 pm someone on my floor complained to Managment and the building manager showed up with 2 board members and proceeded to SCREAM at me. (Because that’s not distracting or disturbing to other residents on my floor.) I was already so stressed that I didn’t say a word or I was going to completely lose it on her and probably have the cops called. I told her to speak to the movers who, even though they admitted to being late, proceeded to blame ME because I said that I had to move that day. What day I need to move is none of their business, if they were to show up on time it wouldn’t have been an issue. How on Earth is that MY fault? (The only thing I could have done differently looking back was to book movers earlier in the day.) I had everything packed and ready to go. We all had a HEATED discussion in the lobby, good times. I was just so over it that I told the movers we were done, and ended coming back with my sister the next day to finish. Looking back, I wish I had just said screw you and finished the move. We were almost done anyways. I felt super bad about showing up at my new building at 10 o’ clock at night and making a bad first impression. So I texted my new manager to give him a heads up and he was like “It’s fine, no worries.” Ha! The next day, I wrote the old building’s manager and the board a long email about how they treated me and ganged up on me and how inappropriate it was. One of the board members was a relatively big guy compared to me and he just stared me down the entire time without saying a word. To say that I felt extremely intimidated is an understatement. It was just me and my cat, like what the eff was I supposed to do. I understand that they have people disregard the rules all the time, but they have to be more understanding, especially if they are going to allow their owners to rent out the suites in their building. If y’all don’t want renters coming and going, CHANGE YOUR BYLAWS. Oh, and the icing on the cake was that my old landlord took $150 off my damage deposit to have a wall in the bedroom painted where my pillow had left a mark. I checked and they are NOT ALLOWED to deduct for normal wear and tear, only major damages, which we had NOT done. I told her this and she would not budge so I just said whatever. I just wanted to be done with that place. I’m so much happier now in my new place/life, even with this lockdown. Anyways, that felt good to get off my chest. Sorry you went through this. I FEEL your pain!

  • My moving experiences have been limited to a couple of moves in the same building, on the same floor. And I'm pretty sure we did almost all, if not all, of it by ourselves. The first time I'm pretty sure we did it all ourselves, but I was 8 so I don't know about absolutely everything, but we definitely moved tons of difficult furniture on our own, and many many many boxes. Last year we moved out/in and then in/out for renovations and once again we did almost everything by ourselves. On very few occasions we asked the renovators to help bring like two things down the hall. The paint guys were like, kind of friends and we got them to help with installing a handful of shelves and repaired my bed, but they and the floor guys probably helped move like two things down the hall, just helping maneuver things around the crazy corners and through the door. So basically, no nightmare moving companies, but a different type of nightmare chaos because fucking apartments and all the crap and trash in our lives and just all sorts of personal bullshit. We still have 60% of the apartment filled with boxes and just straight piles of shit, and it's been that way since last May... No one has made a dent of progress, and my brother and I can't help our mother because we don't know where she wants things, how she wants them grouped, what to throw away, or anything. I guess the only "bad" third-party experience in the move/renovation was that we left a shelf (the unit the television sits on) in the living room because the guys could just move it depending on what part of the floor they were working on, and we left our Wii in there not thinking there would be any sort of problem. It stopped working and we had to replace the disc drive and we're assuming it's from being moved around (even though we laid it flat rather than leave it upright), though it's not for certain. We didn't try turning it on until a while after, and it is quite old, after all. This apartment is a piece of shit though and my mum still wanted to keep it and fought for it in the separation even though it's entirely not worth it, and we've had countless time to say "I told you so" and uaaaagghh! In conclusion: No one gives a shit about what I wrote anyway but I'm still going to post it for some reason.

  • In 2014 I lost my house because I had a stroke and after couldn't work or pay the taxes on it. We got evicted and I lost the family home. I had 30 days to find another place. Thankfully, I was able to find a nice small apartment, but then had to decide what to bring from my big 3 floor house. Not everything would fit, but since I lost my mom, dad and brother, the whole house was filled with sentimental memories. How do you choose? I kept coming back even after the 30 days were up because I'd remember something else I wanted. This was around the holidays and it was getting very cold up here in NY state. I called the city because I now had 3 electric and gas bills. I tried to make a deal that I would stay in the house and keep the heat on through February so the pipes would not burst, but I would only do that if I could stay. They would not work with me so I ended up shutting the heat and electricity off after warning them if they did not shut the water off, the pipes would freeze. They assured me they would take care of it. Fast forward to a month later and I stopped back over to see if my deceased mother had gotten any mail as they were still sending mortgage things to her. I heard something funny coming from inside the house. I opened the door and it made a loud popping sound. My recliner that I could not take with me was floating across the living room and water was EVERYWHERE! It was just pouring in like a waterfall. I called the police and they sent firemen up to check it out. The fireman tried to go down to the basement apartment, but the hall was impassable. Filled to the brim with water, which had to be pouring in for over a month! I was in tears. They ruined my mom's house. I felt awful. It was a nightmare times 10. We have been in this little apartment since. It is quiet over here, but to this day I am still heartbroken over my house.

Plus I can tell you the moving company man yelling at you (or at your mom) at the phone is not behaving professional. I have a costumer facing job, most of the time people coming to me are frustrated and angry for issues that they caused by themselves so none of their problems is my fault but they are screaming anyway and all I do is to keep calm and try to figure how to help. Some people can’t do their job properly and still blame others it’s shocking to me.

The second company was dumb it was a 4 man job for them. If the man from the second company said he was in the military I would have thrown it back at him , his commanding officer would not have gotten off his back and would have not allowed shouting. If he had to move someone in the military and "forgot" the boxes you better believe he would have been made to go get the boxes and been chewed out, maybe at the same time. • Molly, after reading your story about moving basicly across the street, I almost had to laugh. Its not that it's funny , but how many things can go wrong on one move for one person and the furniture you own. I just cannot believe the bullshit they threw at you on why they cannot do various thing. I am glad you have a sence of humor about the entire mess, only in California does this shit happen.

  • I had the opposite experience with my last move. I was floored at how professional the guys were. They sent two guys and I was moving from a 2700 sq ft house so I really didn't think 2 guys would be enough to pack me up. They packed my entire house and loaded it on the truck in two days. They worked so incredibly fast I was so surprised. They wrapped everything to excess! It was a company paid move cross country from Texas to WA. It was 7 yrs ago and unfortunately I don't remember the name of the company, but it was definitely how a move SHOULD go! Loved hearing your story, although sorry you had such an experience!

  • There’s no loading zone for my apartment complex which is weird because there’s no parking on the street in front of my apartment... so when I moved in we parked and just dumped my stuff off in my living room as fast as possible.

  • Just saw your Nightmare Neighbor video and this! Girl I hope you left a bad Yelp review for the movers and the apartment company. I leave reviews on Yelp all the time. You are so kind and sweet, I couldn’t have put up with the neighbor and moving issues! Lol

  • BBB is generally paid by the companies to obtain their ratings, so they probably wouldn't do anything. Also, always always always take pictures so that you can document everything for if a civil case has to be filed

  • I moved from Virginia to Florida and hired a company to take my big stuff (couch, bed, tables, big boxes) and they HELD MY FURNITURE FOR RANSOM!!! I didn’t have furniture for over a month and we had no idea where it was! We ended up having to pay an extra $500 to get my stuff! And then a ton of my stuff was broken and dirty! They also tried to offer me other peoples furniture while moving my stuff in!!! Ugh.
